About Us

Our Mission

Hopewell is a community of God’s people, saved by faith in Christ alone, renewed by worship in Word and Sacrament, nurtured by grace, and entrusted with the mission to proclaim Christ’s Lordship to all and in every area of life.

Who We Are

Hopewell began as a mission church in the 1820's and was organized on May 23, 1831 with 43 members. As our community transitions from a rural setting to increasingly suburban, the foundation of our church remains the same. Simple traditions express our love for Christ in worship, our joy in fellowship, and commitment to service in our community. We are a reformed, Presbyterian, and liturgical church that follows the life of Christ each year using the Church calendar.

  • Reformed - we believe in the sovereignty, goodness, and mercy of God throughout human history
  • Presbyterian - we believe in electing our church leaders as a congregation while also participating in a large network of churches locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Liturgical - we believe in reliving the earthly life of Jesus by remembering His advent, birth, baptism, death, resurrection, and ascension each year.

We're also home to the world famous Hopewell Corn Roast. The Corn Roast is held every year in late July/early August, depending on cooperation from Indiana weather, and is used to fund outreach projects in our community.

What we believe

Hopewell is a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). The EPC consists of more than 600 churches with approximately 145,000 members. The Constitution of the EPC consists of the Westminster Confession of Faith (including the Larger and Shorter Catechisms), the “Essentials of our Faith,” and the Book of Order (comprised of The Book of Government, The Book of Discipline, and The Book of Worship). Of these, we have one confessional standard: the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. All these documents are subordinate to Scripture, which is “the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks.”
